These are brand new FIA approved harnesses with 2024 homologation, and are labelled accordingly.
Fully FIA Approved for track use. FIA approval is for 5 years from the end of the year purchased. For example, if purchased on 1st Feb they would be approved for 11 months of the current year plus a further 5 years.
Wrap around fixing on shoulder straps
A HANS/FHR Only, 6 point FIA approved 8854/98 Quick Adjuster harness from TRS, specifically designed for Mazda MX-5 (a.k.a. Miata/Eunos), from 1989 to 2005. With shorter shoulder straps designed to wrap around a roll bar or harness bar, these harnesses are essential for use in your MX-5 if used on the track with a HANS device.
As standard they feature shoulder straps manufactured to the correct length ready to wrap around your roll bar or harness bar, and lap straps which adjust by pulling down to tighten.
TRS's new 50mm "quick adjuster" features a space saving integrated tongue. This ensures the adjuster sits directly and comfortably up on the driver's lap. The new "quick" adjuster guarantees users an even faster driver change, even compared to a normal TRS alloy adjuster. The pull down to tighten "quick" adjuster is perfect for driver changes and small cockpits where there is not enough space for an adjuster by the side of the seat and the floor of the car. Supplied with grab loops.
TRS's lightweight 140 gram quick release buckle is of composite construction and is attached to the crutch strap on 5 and 6 point harnesses. Innovative features such as a securing tab for intercom cables on the shoulder strap and thumb loops on lower shoulder straps were all pioneered by TRS and are standard on all of their competition harnesses.

- Shoulder Straps are manufactured for the MX-5 to exactly the correct length to wrap around the harness bar or roll bar without excess webbing. A harness bar is available as an option, (see below).
- Please note the length of the shoulder straps is 122cm from the adjuster to the end of the strap. Once the webbing has been wrapped around this will leave a maximum length of approximately 70cm from the adjuster to the roll / harness bar.
- Lap straps have snap hook fixings. 7/16" UNF eye bolts and instructions are included. The lap strap eyebolts screw into the original mounting points on the sill and on the seat runners. If you have replaced or are thinking of replacing the seats with Cobra Monacos, or other base mounted seats that retain the original runners, then this is still the case. If you have seats fitted with side mounts a new fixing point will be required to the centre of the car, on the tunnel. Please select the harness stress plates from the dropdown to facilitate this requirement. All FIA seats will require this type of fixing.

Please note that the rotary buckle is always fixed to the crutch straps as standard, in line with current FIA regulations. If you need the buckle to be attached to one of the lap straps instead then we can do this, although the harness will then be supplied with non-compliance labels i.e. it will no longer be FIA approved. Contact us if you have specific requirements.
Please note many Mazda MX-5 owners use these on the road but they are only approved for Track Day use.
Shoulder Straps
- Shoulder straps are approximately 122cm from the adjuster to the end of the strap
- The adjustment range of the lower shoulder strap is between 10cm and 40cm
- The fixings at the end of the shoulder straps are not sewn on, and can easily be removed if you plan to wrap the shoulder straps around a roll bar

Webbing Colour
TRS Harnesses are available in 9 different webbing colours: Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, Green, Grey/Silver, Orange, Pink, and Miami Blue.
Red, Blue, and Black harnesses are the most common colours, so harnesses in those colours are usually in stock, if you need your harnesses in a hurry.
Thread Colour
As standard, TRS Harnesses are stitched using the same colour thread as the webbing, but contrasting colours are also available. There are 9 different thread colours available: Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, Green, Grey/Silver, Orange, Pink, and Miami Blue.

With these harnesses we offer some optional extras for your comfort and safety, which you can select using the dropdown boxes above.
MX-5 Harness Bar: The only way to securely, safely, and easily fit harnesses to an MX-5. In fact, this MX-5 specific harness is only designed to be used with a harness bar or a roll bar. The harness bar attaches to the seat belt towers and has the added benefit of acting as a brace giving increased rigidity. It fits both right and left-hand drive Mk 1 and 2 MX-5 models.
Please note that only one harness bar is needed per vehicle. If ordering a pair of harnesses, add one to the basket with a harness bar and one without.

A pair of TRS Shoulder Pads are available in three colours: black, red, and blue. They simply attach with velcro around the shoulder strap area of the harness, for added comfort for the wearer. They will be provided in the appropriate size for the harness you choose.
Also available is a TRS Webbing Cutter, for use in case of emergencies. This is a knife for a driver, passenger or marshal to cut through harnesses and webbing in the event of an accident, to quickly release the wearer and avoid being trapped in the car. The cutter meets the MSA Blue Book requirement which states "Belt cutter(s) must be carried on board at all times", so it's a must-have when racing.
Steel Stress Plates are available with a captive 7/16" UNF nut to create suitable mounting point for TRS Harnesses. FIA approved. 65mm x 65mm x 3mm.
