TRS Motorsport Car Harnesses Explained

Whether it’s a fully FIA approved motorsport harness, or a high-quality, road legal harness suitable for track days, kit cars, classic cars and everything else in between, TRS offer a harness that is right for you. Their fantastic range of superb safety harnesses are suitable for all types of vehicles, and all types of drivers.

Colour Options including Thread Colour
The straps (or webbing) of all TRS harnesses are available in a selection of different colours. They are:

Red
Blue
Yellow
Green
Grey/Silver
Orange
Pink
Miami Blue

As standard the stitching is the same colour as the webbing, but contrasting colours are also available. There are 9 different thread colours available – these are the same as the colours noted above for the different strap colours. You can make your choice of webbing and thread colour on our product pages.
Adjuster Options
Most TRS harnesses come with steel adjusters as standard on both the lap and shoulder straps.
You can upgrade the harnesses to the “Superlite” or “Ultralite” versions. The Superlite harnesses use lightweight aluminium adjusters on the shoulder straps, and the Ultralite harnesses use them on both the shoulder and lap straps. These premium aluminium alloy adjusters are lightweight and offer a smoother and faster adjustment.
They are highly recommended for vehicles being shared between multiple drivers, and in general we always recommend upgrading to the aluminium adjusters due to their premium look and feel.
TRS Bolt In Harnesses
These simply ‘bolt in’ to your car. The lap straps bolt into the original position and the shoulder straps bolt into a suitable position in the rear of the car, or wrap-around a roll or harness bar. 7/16" UNF bolts and instructions are included.
The straps (webbing) are 2” (50mm) wide and the buckle is a push button release, the same as a standard car seat belt. 3 or 4 point versions are available.
Ideal for most saloon and sports cars with short shoulder versions available for two-seater cars plus specific versions available for Caterham, Westfield, MX5, Lotus, Porsche and Classic Mini. They are road approved.
The TRS Bolt In harnesses are the most basic and affordable option available in the range. Still very high quality, but great value for sports cars and saloons.
TRS Clubman Harnesses
These are mounted using snap hook fixings. The harnesses have snap hook fixings that are designed to fix on to the 7/16" UNF eyebolts supplied with the kit. The original seat belts can be retained if required, as the eyebolts supplied can replace the original bolts that are fixing the seatbelt in position (please just ensure that the eyebolt is long enough to achieve this safely).
The lap straps use the original position and the shoulder straps clip into eyebolts located in a suitable position in the rear of the car or wrap-around a roll or harness bar.
The straps (webbing) on the standard 3 or 4 point Clubman harnesses are 2” (50mm) wide with an added 3” (75mm) section around the buckle on the lap strap, for additional comfort. We also offer a 4 point Clubman with wider 3” (75mm) shoulder straps. The buckle is a push button release, the same as a standard car seat belt.
Ideal for most saloon and sports cars with short shoulder versions available for two-seater cars plus specific versions available for Caterham, Westfield, MX5, Lotus, Porsche and Classic Mini. They are road approved.
The TRS Clubman harness is a superb and affordable option for road going cars and occasional track day cars, where safety is paramount but every day use is also possible, with the added convenience of being able to easily remove the harnesses when required.
TRS Magnum Harnesses
These are FIA approved harnesses, available in 4 and 6 point versions. They all have 3" (75mm) lap and 3” shoulder straps apart from the HANS only version which has a shoulder strap that reduces from 3” (75mm) to 2” (50mm).
They feature a quick release rotary buckle that is FIA approved.
The belts are fixed in position with snap hooks, that attach to 7/16" UNF eyebolts that are supplied with each harness. Shoulder straps clip into an eyebolt located in a suitable position in the rear of the car or wrap-around a roll or harness bar (the snap hook fixings on the shoulder straps are not sewn on, and can therefore be removed easily if you plan to wrap the shoulder straps around a roll bar – instructions on how to safely and securely wraps the straps around a roll bar are included with the harness).
Ideal for most saloon and sports cars with short shoulder versions available for 2 seater cars plus specific versions available for Caterham, Westfield, MX5, Lotus, Porsche and Classic Mini.
We also offer a Magnum Rally Pack. This kit includes a pair of FIA approved 6 point Magnum harnesses with eyebolts, a helmet hammock net for two crash helmets, map pocket net, spare wheel strap and a professional 4 meter tow rope with eyelets at both ends.

TRS Pro Harnesses
Ok, so now we understand the TRS Magnum range of harnesses, the TRS Pro harness range is simple; they are exactly the same quality, with FIA approval and with the same features as the TRS Magnum harnesses, but they have 2” (50mm) lap straps, instead of 3” (75mm). The shoulder straps remain 3” wide apart from on HANS only versions which taper down from 3” to 2”.
All Pro Harnesses include 2” (50mm) crutch straps.
They feature a quick release rotary buckle that is FIA approved.
The belts are fixed in position with snap hooks, that attach to 7/16" UNF eyebolts that are supplied with each harness. Shoulder straps clip into an eyebolt located in a suitable position in the rear of the car or wrap-around a roll or harness bar (the snap hook fixings on the shoulder straps are not sewn on, and can therefore be removed easily if you plan to wrap the shoulder straps around a roll bar – instructions on how to safely and securely wraps the straps around a roll bar are included with the harness).

TRS Pro Single Seater Harnesses
6 point harnesses specifically designed for single seater racing cars. FIA approved and available as a standard or HANS only version.
The HANS version has shoulder straps that reduce from 3” (75mm) to 2” (50mm) to accommodate a HANS device. These are only approved when being used with the device.
The standard / non-HANS version has 3” (50mm) shoulder straps and is approved for use when not being used with a HANS device.
All Pro Single Seater harnesses have 2” (50mm) lap and crutch straps.
The HANS version is supplied with Superlite aluminium adjusters to the shoulder straps as standard.
They feature a quick release rotary buckle that is FIA approved.
Fittings to secure shoulder, lap and crutch straps are suitable for most single seater racing cars, this includes 8mm bolt in fixing plates on the shoulders and 8mm bolt in pinch plates on the lap and crutch straps.
FIA approved.
TRS International Harnesses
These are 6 point FIA approved harnesses. They all have 2” (50mm) lap and 2” shoulder straps plus 2” crutch straps.
They feature a quick release rotary buckle that is FIA approved.
The belts are fixed in position with snap hooks, that attach to 7/16" UNF eyebolts that are supplied with each harness. Shoulder straps clip into an eyebolt located in a suitable position in the rear of the car or wrap-around a roll or harness bar (the snap hook fixings on the shoulder straps are not sewn on, and can therefore be removed easily if you plan to wrap the shoulder straps around a roll bar – instructions on how to safely and securely wraps the straps around a roll bar are included with the harness).
They can only be used in conjunction with a HANS device for FIA events.
We also offer a version of the TRS International harness with the TRS Quick Adjuster. This is a specially designed and manufactured aluminium, FIA approved mechanism that incorporates the rotary buckle and lap strap adjusters. It enables maximum adjustment to the lap straps and ultra quick driver changes when required.

TRS Nascar Lever/Latch Off Road Harnesses
Ideal for off road use, these harnesses feature a purpose-made lever latch buckle that is designed to operate easily in extreme conditions.
Available in 4, 5 or 6 point fixing, with 2” or 3” webbing.
The belts are fixed in position with snap hooks, that are designed to attach to eyebolts. Eyebolts aren’t included as standard, but can be added to the order using the dropdown menus. 7/16" UNF eyebolts that are 25mm or 50mm in length are available.
The shoulder straps clip into an eyebolt located in a suitable position in the rear of the car or wrap-around a roll or harness bar (the snap hook fixings on the shoulder straps are not sewn on, and can therefore be removed easily if you plan to wrap the shoulder straps around a roll bar – instructions on how to safely and securely wraps the straps around a roll bar are included with the harness).
SFI Approval (USA Motorsport Approval) available on request. Not FIA or Road Approved.
