Momo Steering Wheels
4th January 2019 | By Patrick CrowMomo are the world's number one manufacturer of high quality steering wheels for both race and road. They have a heritage that stretches back over 50 years, with a proven track record that is the envy of their competitors.
It all started in 1964 when Gianpiero Moretti, the founder of the company, developed a small leather steering wheel for his own racing car that had a larger grip than normal. At the time the steering wheel was just a standard component in motorsport and little attention had been paid to improving it's design and functionality. When John Surtees saw the steering wheel he asked Moretti to make one for his Ferrari Formula 1 car. John Surtees went on to win the World Championship that year, and the Momo story had begun!
In 1966 the first factory was opened to manufacturer Moretti's new steering wheel, the site was in Tregnano, near Verona, and the brand name "Momo" was created (a combination of "Moretti" and "Monza"). Ferrari placed the first order, having decided to use Momo Steering Wheels on all of their racing cars, and soon Momo established themselves as the first choice for all serious motorsport teams. Over the years they have supplied steering wheels for an incredible selection of drivers, most of whom have gone on to win championships using a Momo Steering Wheel; this list includes Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart to name just a few.
Momo's motorsport heritage has enabled them to develop unrivaled expertise that is utilised throughout their product range; filtering through to their steering wheels for road use. The same innovation, care and attention that saw them quickly establish themselves as the market leading steering wheel manufacturer is still applied to this day. Momo steering wheels are developed to suit particular needs for particular drivers, cars and events; they are rigorously designed and tested meeting all the leading European and Worldwide quality standards.
